Bookstore Summer
Registering for a designated date & time to purchase your textbooks, pick up your ID and schedule, sign off on your handbook and verify registration information is gone; Hinsdale Central High School will no longer host its annual “Book Month” in its traditional format. Beginning July 18 through August 19, you are expected to stop by our newly located Hinsdale Central Campus Bookstore, Room 121, to have your School ID produced, sign off on the student handbook, pay your appropriate course fees, verify your registration data & obtain your schedule.
There is no need to rush to the Hinsdale Central Campus Bookstore, since you will purchase your textbooks online through Follett Virtual Bookstore or a vendor of your choice. Just access Home Access Center (HAC) and print your “requested courses” which can be found under the schedule link prior to July 15.
A list of the 2011-12 textbooks titles and ISBN’s will be available on the Hinsdale Central Campus Bookstore web site beginning the week of June 20. You may use your “requested courses” available through Home Access Center (HAC) to purchase your appropriate textbooks through Follett Virtual Bookstore (FVB), but to obtain your course schedule; course with section, period, and teacher you will have to go through the Hinsdale Central Campus Bookstore after July 18. The Hinsdale Central Campus Bookstore will be open during the summer Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Federal Free Lunch Program Application
In July of the current year, the federal government will make available the the income guidelines and application for the Federal Free Lunch Program. At that time the guidelines and application will be made available in the links above. At that time, please set up an appointment to meet with Mr. William Walsh at 630-570-8215 or Mr. John Bruesch at 630-570-8213 to process the application and take the necessary steps to assist you. This meeting must be completed BEFORE you purchase your textbooks for the pending school year.
The Hinsdale Central Bookstore is moving online!
Hinsdale Central has chosen to partner with Follett Virtual Bookstores to operate textbook services for the school. Follett will be creating a full-service website to order Hinsdale Central books and other materials. The site will go live over the summer to order fall books.
Moving our bookstore online has many advantages:
· This move gives students access to the largest supply of money-saving used textbooks, with 2.5 million in stock and ready to ship direct from Follett’s warehouse in nearby River Grove, IL. This removes the added costs of shelving and stocking books at Central as well as returning unsold materials.
· Follett offers its customers the best text rental program in the industry, which saves 50% or more off the cost of a new book.
· Follett offers the best price when buying back books at the end of the year. Students can sell back books anytime online via the new site, or in-person at Follett’s Hinsdale Central buyback event at the end of the school year.
o The buyback event dates will be during the senior final exam week and again during the freshman, sophomore and junior final exam week.
Look for more information on the end-of-year buyback event as well as the procedure to obtain fall books in the next few weeks. In the meantime, sign up for the new virtual bookstore’s email list at www.HinsdaleCentral.bkstr.com to be sure to receive important dates and information.
Follett Virtual Bookstore Text Rental Program
Rental is the newest trend in textbooks! In addition to standard new and used book options, many titles also have a "rental" option. It works just like you used to rent a movie. Just pay a fee to use the book for the length of time you choose - you often save 50% or more off the cost of a new book! After exams you return the book at the Hinsdale Central buyback event or ship the book back - free. If you decide to keep the book, you can choose to buy out your rental.
The online bookstore tries to make as many books available for rent as possible. Generally, the book is rentable if it will be used again in another class and you don't have write on or rip out pages to turn in work. You can even highlight and make note in the books (within reason) like you would normally. Full details on text rental are available in the textbook section of Hinsdale Central's Virtual Bookstore web site.
Textbook information may be found here.
Book Buy Back
Returning a product you used is a strange idea. But textbooks still have value when they will be used again in another class. The advantage of a new online bookstore is that your book will have a higher value if it is used again at Hinsdale Central, or there is a demand for the book at any other school across the country.
The Hinsdale Central Virtual Bookstore can buy your book back at any point during the term via our online buyback service or in-person at the school buyback event at the end of the year. Remember, the value of a book is determined by the demand for it, so it will have the highest value at the end of the year when we know who needs it again.
Follett Virtual Bookstores will conduct a buyback event(s) at the school. Follett buys back textbooks that will be used again here and at schools across the country to provide money-saving used books in the fall.
If you are not able to attend the school buyback event, you can also sell back books online at a web site to be determined soon. If you have questions, call Follett Virtual Bookstores at 877-827-2665.
