Portal FAQ

Welcome
Hinsdale High School District 86 is pleased to make it possible for parents to access their child’s academic progress in each of their classes through the Internet. District 86 believes this kind of access will improve parent and teacher communication as well as student responsibility. Parents will be able to view a summary report of their child's grades, along with a detailed report showing every assignment.

How to Access Grades
In order for access to be granted you must register for a parent account using the link below. After District personnel are able to authenticate the registration information, a letter will be sent home to you with a Login/Username and Password. A single password and login allows parental access to all family members who are students.

IF YOU ARE WANTING TO ADD A STUDENT TO AN EXISTING ACCOUNT, OR IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WHEN LOGGING IN, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN.  SEND AN EMAIL TO spalmer@hinsdale86.org, or call 570-8213

Privacy
District 86 will not make your username/password publicly available. The grades of your child posted on the website can be accessed only by appropriate official school personnel and by the private username and password that will be generated for you.   It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to keep the password secure.

What You See
Please remember the grades you see might not include all assignments or tests that have been completed by your child.  As teachers complete the grading of assignments and tests and enter these into their grade book, the information available to parents is updated.  Please be patient while waiting for grades to appear.

Teachers use different averaging methods for their classes. Some use a “total points" method, where all points earned are totaled and divided by the amount possible. Others use a "weighted average" method, where some categories (e.g. tests, homework, labs, etc.) are worth more than others. If you try to calculate a student’s grade from the “Assignment” page you may not get the average that the teacher gets when they calculate.  The quarter grade on the “Grade Summary” page should accurately reflect the teacher’s grade calculation.

Should question arise about individual student progress or grade entries for particular classes, the parent or student should communicate directly with the teacher by phone or email.
