Detentions

Students are expected to serve all disciplinary assignments given to them or more severe action will be taken.  For reasons of disciplinary effectiveness, student confidentiality, insurance liability and general building security, parents may not serve disciplinary assignments for their children.

When a detention is scheduled, the student will be required to attend on that date and time.  Detentions will be served in the detention study hall, Room 12.  Rescheduling will not be allowed except for emergencies.  If a student fails to serve a Saturday supervised study, an out-of-school suspension will be immediately issued.

Detentions are thirty minutes long and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:25 a.m. until 7:55 a.m. and from 3:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.  One hour detentions are held only from 3:15 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Another assignment is Saturday morning detention from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  It is the Deans’ decision as to whether or not an after school or Saturday morning detention is appropriate.  Students are expected to bring classroom materials to work on for any of the above assignments.  If a student does not serve any of the above disciplinary assignments when assigned, the student may be suspended out of school with no make-up privileges allowed. Students are reminded that they may be requested to present their student I.D. card for attendance taking purposes.  Students are responsible for their own transportation both to and from their Saturday detention.

The expectations listed below apply to students assigned to serve a detention.  Non-compliance with these student expectations will result in dismissal from detention study hall Room 12.  Failure to successfully complete a Deans’ disciplinary assignment will result in an out-of-school suspension.

      •         Arrive to Room 12 prior to your start time:

                                One-half-hour detention (7:25 a.m. or 3:15 p.m.)

                                One-hour detention (3:15 p.m.)

                                Saturday detention (8:00 a.m.)

Late arrivals will not be admitted.

      •         Have a student I.D. in possession to present upon request.

      •         Bring study or reading materials to occupy the time constructively.

      •         Deposit food or drink in the trash before entering Room 12.

      •         Walkmans, radios, electronic devices, cards, etc. are not permitted.

         •         Attending a detention takes priority over any other school activity
                 scheduled at that time.

         •         Students who fail to serve a Saturday detention must have a parent
call the Deans’ Office on the following Monday.
