Evaluating Information Resources

 

Content

  • Does the article seem accurate and thorough?

  • Is the information presented objectively?

  • Is the article well organized and coherent?

  • Are various points of view represented?

  • Are there typographical or grammatical errors?

  • What evidence is provided for support?

Authority

  • Is the author's name stated on the document?

  • Is the author qualified? (Check the author's education, occupation, or list of publications.)

  • Is the article published by a credible source? (Does an individual, a university, a private company, or a political organization sponsor the site?)

  • Does the site provide a contact for further information?

Timeliness

  • Is the publication date appropriate to your topic?

  • Is the site updated frequently?

  • How recently was the published page/article updated?

  • Does the date of publication affect the reliability of the information?

Usefulness

  • How useful is this information to the purpose and audience of your paper?

  • How will you use the information to support your argument?
