The American Cancer Society offers an integrated Summer Research Program designed for high school students in their junior year. The major objective of the program is to introduce students to scientific research, specifically cancer research, to promote career opportunities in the area of cancer, through a program supervised by the American Cancer Society. This program will help students develop their own philosophy in biophysics, biochemistry, immunology, and pharmacology, as well as gain an understanding of cancer and its impact on Illinois residents. Interested students should demonstrate strong ability in math and science, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in core subjects, be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident and have an outstanding record. Application is necessary and should be postmarked no later than March 31, 2008.

The Master of American History and Government program is being offered at Ashland University. The courses in the Master's program are summer, residential courses open to degree and non-degree students. Students may pursue the Master of American History and Government degree or they may take individual courses as continuing education coursework. The courses offered as a part of the Master's program are intensive one-week seminars. Each week-long course is offered for two semester hours. There are five one-week sessions scheduled this summer, and students may participate in one course during each session.

The high school honors program is a six-week residential or commuting program in which students can either take two Boston University undergraduate courses, earning up to eight credits, or conduct scientific research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Participants must be entering their senior year in fall 2008. The summer challenge program is a two-week residential program for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in fall 2008. Summer Challenge students enroll in two non-credit seminars designed specifically for the program. Seminar topics this year include abnormal psychology, business, creative writing, ecology, the history of Boston, international politics, introduction to Chinese, journalism, law, mass communication, persuasive writing, and visual arts. The Summer Challenge Program is ideal for students who wish to explore college-level work without the pressure of grades.

There are two exciting summer programs - The Walgreens-Chicago College of Pharmacy Career Explorers Program and the Osco Drug-Chicago College of Pharmacy Career Explorers Program. Students who will be completing their junior and senior high school year by early June 2008 may apply for these intensive six-week summer programs, which consist of organized hands-on activities as a pharmacy technician at various Walgreen or Osco Drug pharmacies and a short course in pharmacy related topics at the Chicago College of Pharmacy.
