The focus of all department work is student learning. The twenty-one teachers in our department work collaboratively to maximize learning for all students. Teacher teams meet regularly to identify desired learner outcomes for our students, create effective learning activities to help students meet these goals, and plan common assessments.

Students in foreign language classes at Hinsdale Central think critically and learn actively while acquiring second language skills. Foreign language at Hinsdale Central is a rigorous academic program that successfully prepares students for their collegiate studies. Students also acquire second language skills that enable them to comprehend and use their language in meaningful ways.

As department chair, I am very proud of the teachers in our department who do so much to enliven the foreign language experience for our students. Evidence of this is the success that our students consistently achieve on national language exams, AP exams, and college entrance exams. Our success is evident, too, in the high numbers of successful second language learners at Hinsdale Central.
