WHAT IS A CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER?
A Certified Athletic Trainer is an allied health professional, certified by the Board of Certification for athletic trainers. Athletic Trainers have at least a 4-year degree, with many having a graduate degree. In the State of Illinois, athletic trainers are licensed by the Department of Professional Regulation to provide onsite injury assessment & care, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention and administration of athletic injuries. One of the main jobs of an athletic trainer is to determine when an injury can be treated on-site or whether the injury needs physician attention.
It's Incorrect To Call Them Trainers!
When you do this, you are not distinguishing between certified athletic trainers and a number of other professions that include the word "trainer," like personal trainers or horse trainers. If you don't want to use the full name "certified athletic trainer," use "athletic trainer" or, best of all, "ATC."
HCHS is an Approved Site for the Lewis University Athletic Training Education Program Ted is an Approved Clinical Instructor for the Lewis University Athletic Training Education Program, thus Student Athletic Trainers from Lewis are able to do a one semester clinical rotation with the HCHS Athletic Trianing Program.
