24 Hour Relay Challenge - This annual event is held in May to raise money for local charities, school groups and community groups within District 86. Sponsor - Mrs. Bobo

Ambassadors Club - This is a club which helps new transfer students to our school.  The Ambassadors assist by providing activities and organizing events for new students.  Ambassadors are selected from sophomores, juniors and seniors who apply and interview.  Students need to reapply each year.  Sponsors - Mrs. Hikes,  Ms. Orgo and  Mrs. Wojteczko.

Amnesty International - This club undertakes research and action that is focused on preventing and ending abuses of human rights. Sponsor - Mr. Miller

Anime Club - The current style of art in Japan is developed, practiced, and critiqued weekly in this club. Open to all. Sponsor - Mrs. Graham

Art Club - The Art Club provides opportunities for students interested in pursuing areas of art beyond the classroom.  Sponsor - Ms. Sievers.  Open to all students.

Athletes Committed to Excellence (ACE) – This club is open to all freshmen through seniors who are on any sports or club team.  The club’s goals are to: 1) uphold the athletic code, 2) support all sports here at HC by attending sporting events, and 3) give something back to the community by volunteering at various events.  Sponsors – Ms. Otahal and Mr. Wiggins.

Auto Club - Students meet weekly to discuss their vehicle projects or modifications they are working on as well as planning events for the year. Also, members attend the Chicago Auto Show, several local car shows, indoor go-kart racing, and host school car shows with student vehicles. Sponsor - Mr. Schmidt

Business Professional Association (B.P.A.)- provides opportunities for students to become responsible business leaders.  Scholarship, service to the community and leadership activities are encouraged at the local, area, state and national levels.  Sponsor - TBA.

CAD Club – Students meet weekly to explore several different forms of Engineering Graphics.  Students can utilize four different programs to create three dimensional parts as well as two dimensional drawings.  Students will explore these programs together to gain a higher knowledge of how they work along with teacher guidance.  Sponsor – Mr. Schmidt

Character Counts! Student Life- Character Counts Student Life provides the forum for students to examine current school climate as it pertains to the six pillars, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and fairness.  We meet monthly/bi-monthly to discuss issues that concern us and seek resolution through various projects that we create.  We concentrate on the best way to facilitate peer outreach as a means of improving school climate. We also participate with other clubs in larger projects and outreach efforts – Teachers In Need, Aspire & Inspire Breakfast, Homeroom Presentations. Sponsor: Dr. Bucciarelli 

Cheerleading - Basketball Web-Site Cheerleaders promote and sustain Hinsdale’s spirit, pep, honor and enthusiasm.  The cheerleaders perform at all football games, basketball games, and pep rallies.  All students currently enrolled at Central may try out.  Coaches - Mrs. Schlueter, Mrs. Coppoletto and Mrs. Bronke

Chess Team - Chess Team is open to students interested in interscholastic competition or recreational play.  Sponsors - Mr. Canavan and Mr. Naisbitt.

Citizen Club – Citizen Club was formed due to the desire of our students to learn more about the challenging global political environment in which we live.  A more informed student body benefits our school and society.  We meet Thursday mornings in Room 130 to discuss current political issues.  All are welcome.  Sponsor – Mr. Naisbitt and Mr. Freiler.

Class Boards –

Senior Class Board raises money to reduce the cost of prom tickets.  It makes all the necessary plans for prom and does activities to increase class spirit, including Homecoming and Pack the Place.  Six students are chosen to represent their class.  Sponsors –Ms. Koranda, Mrs.Saunders, and Dr. Bucciarelli.

Junior Class Board members are elected by their peer group.  The board members attend weekly meetings devoted to improving activities in preparation for graduation:  fundraising for prom and selected graduation announcements.  The junior class also performs community service projects and participates in Homecoming and Pack the Place activities.  Sponsors – Ms. Trujillo and Mrs. Sievers.

Sophomore Class Board is elected by the sophomore student body and is composed of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and two delegates-at-large.  The group meets weekly to coordinate Homecoming float building, fundraising to subsidize their prom, and participates in service projects.  Sponsors – Mrs. Bonet.

Freshman Class Board is comprised of six students chosen in a September election.  Goals of the class board include planning the freshman float for Homecoming, planning and conducting fundraising projects to begin working toward prom goals, and creating events that will support class spirit.  The Board meets weekly before school, and attendance by all officers is crucial to plan events for the class.  Two faculty members work with the Board to help achieve their goals.  Sponsors – Mr. Brennan.

Color Guard - Web-Site The HC Red Devil Color Guard is a group of auditioned women who add visual enhancement to the Marching Band half-time performances using dance, flags, rifles, sabers and many other props.  The group also performs for the Hinsdale Independence Day parade and the Homecoming parade.  Incoming freshmen through senior women are welcome to audition in mid-May.  Sponsor – Ms. DiMarco.

Computer Club – The Computer Club provides an opportunity for all interested students to extend their knowledge of computers and their uses by working on projects with fellow club members.  Past projects have included software and web site creation, peer presentations on topics of interest, and server configuration.  Sponsor – Mr.Wilson.

Devils’ Advocate - This student-run news magazine is published monthly using a desktop publishing system.  Staffers develop story ideas, write, edit, design pages and sell advertising among other responsibilities.  Opportunities are available for writers, photographers, artists and advertising salespersons. Advisor - Mr. Friebel.

Drama Club - Web-Site The Drama Club consists of students who support the drama productions at Hinsdale Central.  Publicity, ticket sales, ushering, and other activities are the mainstay of the club. Sponsors - Mrs. Hicks and Mr. Woods.

Ecology Club - The Ecology Club promotes environmental awareness by recycling white paper, plastic, glass and aluminum.  Students also participate in environmental activities within the community.  Sponsor - Mr. Jensen.

El Diablo - El Diablo editors and staffers write, design, produce and distribute the school yearbook.  Students may apply for staff positions in writing, design and photography in the second semester of their freshmen, sophomore or junior years.  Editorial and staff positions require a serious commitment and after-school time.  Sponsors – Mrs. Hiffman and Mrs. Williams.

Extreme Sports Club – This club is formed to discuss and participate in extreme sports.  Main interest is in paintball, but other ideas are welcome.  Sponsor – Mr. Pintz. 

FCCLA / L.I.F.E. – Open to all students with interest in the Family and Consumer Sciences area; such as fashion, food preparation, cake decorating, child care, clothing construction and/or interior design.  Members may compete at regional, state or national level, plus participate in community service and the semiannual fashion show.  Sponsor - TBA.

Fencing Club – Learning the art of fencing and entering competitive fencing events are the main activity of this popular club.  Open to all.  Sponsor – Mr. Meredith.

Forensics - There are 13 competitive events on our school speech team ranging from acting, radio speaking, and original comedy to persuasive speaking.  Students audition for the team in September.               Coach -Mr. Woods and Ms. Gunderson.

French Club - An action oriented club which sponsors a social activity per month such as a visit to the Art Institute, the International Dinner, inter-club Olympics and a major service project.  Open to all.  Sponsor - Ms. Meyers. 

Future Business Leaders of America - Web-Site  F.B.L.A. provides opportunities for students to become responsible business leaders.  Scholarship, service to the community and leadership activities are encouraged at the local, area, state and national levels.  Sponsor - Mr. Walsh.

Future Educators of America – This club is open to all Hinsdale Central students who are interested in teaching.  The club explores the field of education as a career option and hosts activities that provide back to the community with an educational experience.  It is also affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa International.  Sponsor - Mrs. McMahon.

Gaussians - Web-Site  Gaussians is a math team open to all students who like to work on challenging contest-level math problems.  The team practices for and participates in a series of local and state math contests.  Our goal is to explore enrichment and supplementary topics in mathematics.  Sponsor - Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Tyler and Mr. Wilson.

Gay Straight Alliance – GSA provides a safe environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, straight and questioning youth to meet, socialize and support one another.  We envision a community that accepts, affirms and uplifts all young people without regard to their race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class or political affiliation.  Sponsors – Mr. McMahon and Mr. Miller.

German Club - This club is open primarily to students enrolled in German classes, but is also open to other interested students.  We go on field trips to an Oktoberfest and a German Christmas Market every year.  We have special parties, usually at the end of the year and at Christmas.  Our goal is to promote interest in German culture.  Sponsor - Mrs. Jurgens.

Girls Reserve - “G.R.” is a service and social organization open to all girls.  Freshman girls are encouraged to join.  We provide volunteer services for a variety of community agencies, hospitals and charitable organizations.  We also sponsor dances as social functions.  Sponsor –  Mrs. Orgo.

Guitar Club – The Guitar Club is open to all guitar players:  acoustic, electric, bass, mandolin, banjo, and all skill levels:  beginner, intermediate, professional.  We get together after school on Fridays and play.  Occasionally outside professionals come in to talk about some aspect of the guitar or the band business.  The Guitar Club prides itself on being laid back and easy going.  Sponsor - Mr. Horan.

Habitat for Humanity – Raising money to build homes for the poor and constructing those homes are the primary mission of “Habitat.”  Sponsor – Mr. Otahal.

Hinsdale Central Dance Company - HCDC provides opportunities in dance for freshman through senior year students.  A variety of dance styles are taught, choreographed, and performed for the annual show by dance company members.  The Company’s mission is to make dance accessible to the widest possible audience and to create new dances using classical ballet, stylized tap, jazz, creative dance, lyrical, hip hop, and much more.  HCDC promotes the appreciation for the form of dance in the belief that Dance is for Everybody!  Try-outs are in November, Sponsor- Mrs. Russo.

History Club – Guest speakers, field trips, and discussions of historical topics are the primary focus of this group.  Sponsor – Mrs. Ruth.

International Club - International Club’s aim is to promote cultural awareness and understanding, and to encourage students to share their cultural heritage.  The club also offers opportunities to meet exchange students and to obtain information and participate in exchange programs.  International Club is open to everyone who celebrates cultural diversity.  Sponsors – Mrs. Cummings and Ms. Motluck.

Intramural Sports - Sports are offered outside of class to instill a sense of good sportsmanship, fair play and participation.  Sponsor - TBA

Inclusion Student Activities Team (ISAT) – In ISAT we strive to: 1) include all students in fun activities both in school and in the community; 2) make sure people understand the importance of inclusion in our school and community; and 3) promote being active social members of HC.  Our club is open to all.  Sponsor - Ms. Brutlag.

JETS - Web-Site The Junior Engineering and Technical Society, officially known as WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering)  competes with other schools in academic tests in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, English, computers, mathematics and engineering graphics.  Sponsors - Mr. Breig and Ms. Breig.

Key Club (Kiwanis Educated Youth) - Web-Site The Key Club is an international service organization for high school students.  Key Club’s aim is the development of initiative, leadership ability and good citizenship practices.  Members may attend conventions and engage in school and community service projects.  Sponsor - Mrs. Mack and Mrs. Plantz.

Latin Club - The Latin Club exists to promote the understanding and appreciation of classical civilization and to provide a forum for entertaining activities relating to the study of Latin and classical civilization.  The Latin Club is also the support group for Central’s entrants in state and national Latin competitions.  Sponsor - Mr. Rohn and Mr. Horan.

Let’s Help Out (LHO) – The purpose of LHO is to link students at Central with volunteer opportunities in our neighborhood. Throughout the school year, LHO will organize several drives to help numerous non-profit agencies in our community.  LHO also coordinates a bulletin board outside the cafeteria where various volunteer opportunities are listed. Mentors – Mentors is a branch of the Student Assistance Program. The program is designed to pair upper classmen with freshman studetns to ease the transition from middle school to high school.  Mentors foster key development to freshman students academically and socially.  

Mock Trial Club - The Mock Trial program trains students in legal concepts and courtroom procedures in preparation for county and state competitions.  In these competitions students will argue both sides of a case--portraying witnesses, making opening and closing statements, conducting direct and cross-examinations, and responding to objections.  Tryouts for interested students are held in late October or early November.  Sponsors - Mr. Freiler and Mr. Walsh.

Model United Nations - Model U.N. is designed to acquaint students with current global issues through simulating the workings of the United Nations.  Delegates are assigned to a specific nation, research its positions on several issues, and represent that nation in a parliamentary debate at various regional conferences.  The activity promotes an understanding of different cultures and assists students in developing their skills of negotiation and debate.  Sponsor – Mr. Palmquist.

National Art Honor Society - Web-Site NAHS recognizes students who have shown outstanding ability in art.  NAHS members use their creative skills to contribute to the school and the broader community.  NAHS organizes field trips, special gallery shows, and guest speakers for its members.  Eligible students must at least be a Sophomore art student with a “B” or better average in their art classes.  Sponsor - Ms. Milas

National Honor Society Web-Site The National Honor Society is an organization composed of seniors who meet the criteria of high scholarship, character, leadership and service to their school and community.  The goal of this organization is to continue enhancing these traits through social, cultural, civic and academic activities throughout the year.  Sponsors – Mrs. Kalafut, Mrs. Fernandez and Ms. Doyle.

Operation Snowball - This group is composed of students and staff members and provides social alternatives to alcohol and substance use.  Sponsors - Mrs. James.

Peer Leadership – First semester organization that works with all freshmen to transition to high school academically, socially and service opportunities.  Sponsors – Mrs. Bobo, Mrs. Plantz, Ms. Milas, Ms. Ferrone, Mrs. Ruth, Mrs. Russo, Mrs. Mirell, Mr. Russo, Mr. Quaintance, Mrs. Faull, Ms. Fehrman, Mr. DePasquale, and Mr. McMahon.

Pep Band - The pep band performs at many of the boys and girls home basketball games and for pep assemblies as well.  The repertoire focuses on current pop music.  Participation is open to all band students.  Sponsor – Mr. Kurinsky.

Photography Club - This club further advances the students’ appreciation for photography by adding to their knowledge base and skill level within their chosen area of interest.  Sponsor - Mr. Krueger.

Pom/Dance Team - These girls perform at all home football games, basketball games, and pep rallies.  They not only are involved in numerous community service projects but also compete at IDTA sanctioned competitions.  Any freshman, sophomore or junior girl may try out.  Coaches - Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Pohlman and Ms. Williams.

Read to Lead - Read to Lead is a club that is based on tutoring others.  We travel to Maywood, Garfield Park and Oak Brook to work with children on their homework, reading, and comprehension skills.  Read to Lead is open to all. Sponsor – Mrs. Kalafut.

Scholastic Bowl – Central’s Scholastic Bowl team participates with other West Suburban and Illinois schools in academic competition.  Teams of five students answer toss-up and bonus questions on a wide variety of academic disciplines and current events.  Central’s team has a proud tradition of conference and state titles.  Sponsors - Mr. McCloud and Mr. Jensen.

Science Olympiad Web-Site Science Olympiad is a team competition club for very dedicated science students.  Fifteen students are selected for the team based on tryouts usually done in the fall.  The competition includes tests, experiments and building projects.  Sponsors – Mrs. Gabric, Mrs. Jensen, Mr. Williams and Dr. Vetrone.

Show Choir – Show Choir allows students who are unable to participate in a school choir and those who do, a chance to perform.  It is consistent with the mission of Hinsdale Central and allows participants to learn more about the many aspects of performing.  Auditions are open to all.  Sponsor – TBA.

Solstice - The Solstice staff will publish the creative work of our students and organize it into a publication called the Solstice Literary Magazine.  Sponsors - Mrs. Potokar.

Spanish Club - Spanish Club is open to all students who have an interest in the Spanish language and culture.  Sponsor - Ms. Trujillo.

Student Council - Web-Site The Student Council provides student government and activities for the student body.  Student Council runs all school elections, Homecoming, the Variety Show, and issues parking permits to seniors.  Students must present petitions to be placed on the ballot.  Meetings are held every Wednesday morning and are open to all students.  Sponsors – Mrs. Kalafut and Mrs. Bronke.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) - By presenting assemblies and publicity this group works to educate the student body of the dangers of drinking and driving.  Sponsor - Mr. Johnston.

Teens Against Violence (TAV) – This club focuses on preventing violence in the school and in our community.  Sponsor – Ms. Koranda.

Upper Room – The Upper Room Christian Fellowship is a student-led organization for students of all faiths to gather for prayer, Bible studies, and discussions on current issues regarding faith and relevant adolescent topics, as well as opportunities to engage in service activities with other Hinsdale Central students including the annual Taste of Hinsdale Central fundraiser, the Clubs that Care gift baskets, and March of Dimes Walk America. Sponsor- Mr. Liaw.

Variety Show – All-School Talent Show held during Pack the Place Week.  Sponsors:  Mr. Russo and Mrs. Russo.

Varsity Club - Varsity Club promotes school spirit through its organization of spirit week, homecoming pep rallies, election of the queen and court, and the Homecoming Dance in the fall and assorted activities throughout the year.  Membership is open to all students.  Sponsors – Mrs. Phillip and Mrs. Faull.

WHSD Radio Club - If you are interested in developing skills in broadcasting, engineering, announcing, producing and managing a radio station, then this club is for you. WHSD broadcasts music, athletic contests, and strives to meet community needs.  There are tryouts at the start of each semester, in addition to year-round positions that need no audition.  Sponsors – Mr. Hipskind and Mr. Russo.

Worldwise Students - This club works closely with the Peace Corps to support and learn from their efforts overseas.  Sponsor - Mr. Russo.

Youth and Government - This statewide organization provides students with the opportunity to draft, lobby for, and pass laws which they have created.  After meeting with other high schools, the students will take their perfected bills down to the state’s capitol in Springfield for a 3-day weekend where they will attempt to have their bills written into law by debating their bill group’s merits.  Sponsors - Mr. Hipskind.
