ACADEMIC
CENTER
The following programs and services are provided in
the Academic Center, which is located on the first
floor between the main entrance of the building and
the student cafeteria.
Academic Study Hall:
Students may be assigned to the Academic Center for
their study hall if they are experiencing failure.
This provides students who are not reaching their
potential with a smaller setting with fewer
distractions and with an instructional aide to
oversee their work, to attend to their individual
needs, and to monitor their academic progress.
For freshmen students assigned this service,
placement will occur only after classroom
interventions have been tried. Students in other
grades are referred to the Academic Center through
their counselors. Study Skills Units may be
provided to develop or enhance skills in
organization, note taking, study habits, test
preparation, or other areas of need. During their
Academic Study Hall time, students will be sent from
the Academic Center to the departments to get
assistance from teachers in subjects they need
academic support in.
Students will be assigned to Academic Study Hall on
a select, limited basis and returned to their
regular study hall once grades are improved and
maintained.
Excel Program:
Freshman
Excel Program students who meet their academic
benchmarks will be scheduled in Academic Center
Study Hall on a flexible basis as they attempt to
transition back into a regular study hall.
Sophomore
Excel Program students, who previously
utilized services through the Freshman Excel
Program, may receive continued support in the
Academic Center as sophomores. Sophomore students
will be scheduled into the Academic Center Study
Hall for two or three mandatory days a week. These
students will attend regular study hall on the
remaining days, which they can elect to leave in
order to receive tutoring from teachers in the
academic departments.
Educational Services:
Academic Center
space is also made available for Educational
Services for students requiring Resource support.
Attendance at Academic Resource as scheduled will be
mandatory.
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students
will be scheduled for one of two scenarios:
-
They will be required to attend Academic
Resource on Tuesday and Thursday and to report
to regular study hall on the remaining three
days.
-
They will be required to attend Academic
Resource on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and to
report to regular study hall on the remaining
two days.
