Listed below are some summer opportunities which students can inquire about further in our Guidance Office, Room 113.  We do have brochures available which you may view for additional information.  Please stop by and see if one of these opportunities might be of interest to you.  Have a great summer!

Under the guidance of an experienced filmmaker, students participate in all aspects of producing a film.  Participants are involved in all steps of the filmmaking process, including developing a story, script breakdown, casting, lighting, shooting, and editing.

The Boeing Scholars Academy at Illinois Institute of Technology is a free, year-round educational enrichment program that offers up to 100 high achieving, Chicago-area juniors and seniors (students who are now completing grades 10 and 11) per year the opportunity to immerse themselves in academic and hands-on experiences in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as well as architecture, business, psychology, and computer science.  The academy provides summer programming, workshops, seminars, and field trips during the school year; college and career advising; and leadership skills training and grant competitions.  In order to participate in the 2011-2012 Boeing Scholars Academy, students must apply by Thursday, March 31.  The program application and brochure are both available online at their program website at the above mentioned web link.

They offer three exciting summer programs, the Walgreens-Chicago College of Pharmacy Career Explorers Program, the Jewel/Osco Chicago College of Pharmacy Career Explorers Program  and Chicago College of Pharmacy Hospital Program.  Students who will be completing their junior and senior high school year by early June 2011 may apply for these intensive six-week summer programs.  These programs are designed to prepare students to be successful pharmacy technicians, allow students to explore various career opportunities in community pharmacy, link students to mentors who will provide career counseling in this health professional field, and provide information and guidance to prepare students for a pharmacy education.

Chevron Corporation has come together with USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering collaboratively to host a summer camp for high school juniors and high school Science and Math teachers at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.  The Frontiers of Energy Resources Summer Camp offers a preparatory, interactive training program focusing on various energy resources including fossil fuels, solar, biofuel, wind, nuclear energy, and information technologies for energy efficient operations.  This unique program is designed to introduce exceptional high school juniors and as many as three high school science or math teachers to the opportunities and career possibilities available in the global energy resources industry.
