Hinsdale Central has been the home away from home for Carol Bobo, a 1973 Hinsdale Central graduate. Coming back to her alma mater in 1978, Carol worked with the Women’s Swim team as an assistant coach 1978-1979 and then took over the program in the fall of 1979. As the head coach for 21 years, Carol Bobo worked with many talented young women to achieve their individual and team goals over the many seasons. In the fall of 1980 she was one of two Health Education teachers and taught this subject for 20 years. In the fall of 2000, Carol became a counselor at Hinsdale Central. Besides her many years around the swimming pool, Carol has been the co-director of the District 86 24 Hour Relay Challenge.
In addition to a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University, Carol also earned a certification in Guidance and Counseling from Concordia University. Mrs. Bobo has also earned more than 60 hours in graduate study from various institutions.
Living in the community where she works, Carol and her husband, Bill have enjoyed attending all of Scott’s (HC 05) athletic events and Chris’s (sophomore) with many Hinsdale Central families. |

Rob Engleman has been a counselor at Hinsdale Central since 1997. His previous counseling experience includes eight years at Batavia High School and five years at York High School as the college counselor. In addition to his role in guidance, Rob is involved in athletics, coaching the Hinsdale Central freshmen boys’ baseball team. Outside of school, he is active with the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling. He organizes an annual summer bus trip for area counselors to visit colleges throughout the Midwest.

Edward Formanski has been a Hinsdale Central guidance counselor since 1992. His academic achievements included a B.A. from DePaul University and an M.A. from Concordia University. Prior to coming to Hinsdale, he was a counselor and teacher at Fenwick and Weber High Schools. Mr. Formanski is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling. Aside from assisting in college admissions, he has also been an official with the Illinois High School Association and umpired the I.H.S.A. Baseball State Finals in 1994, 1995 and 1997.

Kari Hein has been a member of the Hinsdale Central Guidance Department since 2005. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a member or the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Kari is also a member of the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) and this year is working as a member of the Program Planning Committee for the IACAC’s Annual Conference.
Kari earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Edgewood College. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Guidance and Counseling with an emphasis in Community Counseling/Marriage and Family Therapy.
Kari Hein began working in the counseling field in 1996. Her first five years were spent counseling adolescents and families as a clinician. She enjoyed working with kids so much that she went back to school to receive certification in School Counseling. Before coming to Hinsdale Central, Kari spent her first four years counseling at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.

Lisa Hikes has been a guidance counselor since 1992 working at several different high schools including York High School and Homewood Flossmoor High School and was most recently hired at Hinsdale Central High School in 2001. She has been an active member of the Illinois Association of College Admissions Counselors (IACAC) and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) serving as a committee chair for the Mentorship and Human Relations Committees, was elected as the High School Delegate for IACAC and is an active member on several committees within both organizations. She has also enjoyed being one of the three Ambassador Club sponsors over the past three years. Lisa received both her Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees in Education from Eastern Illinois University.

After earning a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University, Angeline Matos taught Spanish at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois. She then relocated to South Florida where she continued to teach while she earned an M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida.
Angeline began her counseling experience at Pembroke Pines Charter School before returning to the Chicago area and joining the amazing guidance department at Hinsdale Central. She is a member of the Illinois Association of College Admissions Counselors (IACAC) and the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC).
Since her arrival at Central, Angeline has attended several college tours which included visits to universities in Georgia, private institutions in Virginia, and most recently participated in a twent-six school tour throughout the west coast area including schools in Oregon, Idaho, California, and Washington State.

Mr. McCabe has been a high school guidance counselor and coach since 1981, and has been at Hinsdale Central since 1993. In addition to his role as a guidance counselor he is the head girls cross-country coach and the assistant girls track coach. Mr. McCabe's goal as an educator is to help students have the best experience possible in their four years at Hinsdale Central. Donna Wheeler has been working in education since 1992: first as an English teacher for 10 years, then as a guidance counselor. She has been at Hinsdale Central since 2005. Ms. Wheeler is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling. Through NACAC, Ms. Wheeler has connected with a group of college admissions counselors who coordinate a bicycling tour of colleges every summer. Whether pedaling a steep hill into Poughkeepsie, NY or coasting along a tree-lined road into Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Ms. Wheeler appreciates the travel that allows her to talk with colleagues, meet with admissions personnel and college faculty, and visit schools and their surrounding communities in a unique, intimate way. In addition to teaching and counseling, Ms. Wheeler has enjoyed the rewarding opportunity to work for Quantum Learning Network as a facilitator for SuperCamp and a trainer of Quantum Teaching techniques. Every experience that contributes to her professional development also reaffirms her passion for working with students.

Joe Prieto brings a broad range of experience to his position as a guidance counselor with District 86. His background includes classroom teaching of the social and behavioral sciences and foreign language in the Chicago and Aurora public schools. He has also served as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at a small private university and, most recently, as a college and academic counselor at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA).
In the areas of professional development, Joe is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) (for which he co-chairs the Admission Practices Committee), and currently holds an elected position on the College Board’s Midwest Regional Council.
Beyond this, Joe has enjoyed coaching and recruiting athletes for a highly successful NCAA Division III softball program, served as head coach of a co-ed high school golf program, been an advisor to students in Metro History Fair competition, and either sponsored or co-sponsored Harvard Model Congress, Operation Snowball, and Ski Club.
Joe’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Indiana University, a Master of Arts in History from Northeastern Illinois University, and a Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling from Lewis University. |

Cindy Rodkin’s background includes work in both college admission and high school guidance counseling. Most recently she served as a college counselor/consultant at The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), Homewood Flossmoor High School and the Latin School of Chicago. Her college admission positions were at Grinnell College, Lake Forest College and Ripon College. The combination of college and high school work gives Cindy valuable insight into the college selection process which she looks forward to sharing with Hinsdale Central students and parents.
Cindy is an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) where she serves on the Technology Committee and the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) where she serves as a delegate on behalf of our state and as a member of the Admission Practices and Technology Committees. Cindy also recently completed a three year term on The College Board Midwest Regional Council.
Cindy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ripon College and a Master of Education degree and School Counseling Certificate from Loyola University-Chicago.
Cindy and her husband Gary are avid Cubs and Bears fans and even have a dog named Wrigley! |

Gia Georgeow-Maniscalco comes to us from Maine West High School District 207 where she was a guidance counselor. Gia is compassionate and dedicated and focused on the success of her students, behaviors that made significant differences in their academic and personal lives. Gia brings a unique blend of experience in education and business, serving as the National Education Manager for Gucci/YSL Beaute.
Gia has earned her Master’s Degree in Human Services/Counseling from National Louis University, and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a minor in Psychology from Loyola University where she graduated summa cum laude.
Her professional experiences include being a member of Illinois Association of College Admissions Counselors, Illinois Counseling Association, Illinois School Counseling Association and Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association.
Gia is enthusiastic, passionate and looking forward to working with the students and staff at Hinsdale Central High School.
