 Freshman Program

The Freshman Program was established to ensure that incoming eighth graders experience a smooth transition into the high school setting. Within the first few weeks of school a monitoring process is initiated for each student as needed.  Those experiencing failure in a class are targeted for discussion by the Student Support Team that oversees their part of the alphabet. More information about this team can be found on Student Support Team website.  Teachers, department chairs, and support team members work together to provide interventions for the student while still holding the student accountable for his/her learning.  Team meetings involving the parent, child and collaborative school team may be held to problem solve.  Supports, such as an Excel Guided Study Hall or social work services, can be put in place in a timely manner to increase the likelihood that the student will adjust his/her learning pattern before creating a situation from which it is too difficult to recover.
